Privacy policy
The College & School of Modern Montessori (registration number CK94/21728/2) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who contacts us, applies to us, studies with us or entrusts a child to us. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Who is responsible for your information
The responsible party is The College & School of Modern Montessori, 119 1st Road, Linbro Park, Sandton, 2065. Our Information Officer can be reached at modmont@global.co.za, on 011 608 1584, or by post at P.O. Box 119, Linbro Park, 2065.
Information we collect
- Enquiries. Your name, email address, telephone number and the details of your enquiry, submitted through our contact form, by email, by WhatsApp or by telephone.
- Bookings. The details you provide when you book a school tour or a college appointment, including your name, contact details and chosen time.
- Applications. The information set out on our application forms, including identity details, educational history, contact details and, where relevant, the information required for a child's enrolment and care.
- Students and pupils. Academic records, attendance, practicum records, assessment results and, for our accredited courses, the information we are required to submit to MACTE and the ETDP SETA.
- Payments. Where you pay online, the payment is processed by our payment provider. We receive confirmation that a payment was made; we do not receive or store your card number.
- Website use. Our hosting provider records standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and reliability.
- Measurement and advertising, only if you accept cookies. How you move through the site, and an identifier that allows our adverts to be shown to you afterwards. See Cookies and this website below.
Why we may lawfully process it
We process personal information because it is necessary to respond to your enquiry and to conclude or perform a contract with you; because we must comply with obligations imposed by law and by our accrediting bodies; because it is necessary for our legitimate interests in running the College and the Schools; or because you have consented. Where we rely on your consent you may withdraw it at any time, although this may mean we can no longer process an application or administer a course.
How we use it
We use your information to respond to your enquiry, process your application, administer your studies or your child's education, meet our accreditation and statutory obligations, and contact you about matters relating to the College or School. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Children's information
Information about a child is treated by POPIA as requiring particular care. We collect and process a child's personal information only with the consent of a parent or other competent person, only for the purposes of enrolment, education and care, and only for as long as those purposes and our legal obligations require. A parent or guardian may ask at any time to see what we hold about their child, to have it corrected, or to discuss how it is used.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it is necessary, and with organisations that are required to protect it:
- Accrediting and statutory bodies. MACTE and the ETDP SETA, as set out below.
- Service providers who operate parts of this website on our behalf. These currently include our website host and content delivery provider, the service that delivers enquiry emails to us, our appointment booking service, our online application form provider, and our payment provider. They process the information only to provide that service to us.
- Professional advisers, auditors and authorities where we are required or permitted by law to do so.
Accreditation disclosures
Our MACTE accreditation requires us to register every student on an accredited course with MACTE in the United States. Your contact details are added to their system, and on graduation we submit a breakdown of your academic and practicum course work, examination results and hours undertaken, which remains on record at the MACTE office. The ETDP SETA conducts verification audits and issues Statements of Results, which requires us to share student records with them.
Information sent outside South Africa
Some of the organisations above are situated outside South Africa, including MACTE in the United States and some of the service providers that operate this website. Where personal information is transferred outside the Republic we do so on the basis permitted by section 72 of POPIA — because the recipient is subject to a law or binding agreement that provides an adequate level of protection, because the transfer is necessary to perform a contract with you, or with your consent.
Direct marketing
We contact you about the course or school place you enquired about. We do not send unsolicited electronic marketing to people who have not asked to hear from us, and any such message we do send will identify us and offer you a way to stop receiving them. You may tell us at any time that you no longer wish to be contacted.
Retention and security
We keep academic and enrolment records for as long as required by our accrediting bodies and by South African law, and we do not keep personal information longer than the purpose for which it was collected requires, unless a law obliges us to. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold against loss, damage, misuse and unauthorised access. If personal information in our care is accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will notify the Information Regulator and the people affected as POPIA requires.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you and request a copy of it; ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained; object to our processing of your information on reasonable grounds; and withdraw a consent you previously gave. Write to us at modmont@global.co.za or P.O. Box 119, Linbro Park, 2065, and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information or your request, you are entitled to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za, enquiries@inforegulator.org.za, toll free 0800 017 160 or 010 023 5200. We would ask that you raise it with us first so that we have the chance to put it right.
Cookies and this website
When you first arrive, a bar at the foot of the page asks whether you are willing to accept cookies for measurement and advertising. Nothing is loaded until you answer. If you reject, or simply ignore the bar, no analytics or advertising script is fetched at all and no such cookie is set.
If you accept, we load Google Analytics and Google Ads. These set cookies that let us:
- Measure how the site is used — which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and which enquiries come from where, so we can improve the site. This is Google Analytics 4.
- Show our adverts to people who have visited us — commonly called remarketing. If you have looked at our courses or our schools, you may later see our advertising elsewhere. This is Google Ads.
These cookies are set by Google, which processes the information as described in its own privacy policy, and some of that processing happens outside South Africa. We do not sell this information, and we do not use it to identify you personally.
Changing your mind. You may withdraw or give consent at any time using the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page. You can also delete cookies in your browser at any time. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not undo what was already collected.
Separately, pages that embed a booking calendar, an application form or a payment page hand you over to that provider, which sets its own cookies and applies its own privacy policy. The site itself sets no other cookies; a small amount of information is stored in your browser to remember your cookie choice, which never leaves your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date below shows when it was last changed, and the current version is always the one published on this page.
